Putting the pieces together – jigsaw boxes

Avon Calling jigsaw

What was the problem?
Just-So Balloons wanted a limited edition range of 12 jigsaws to sell online and in their shops. Each of the jigsaws is a specially selected photograph of a place or event in Britain, so the name they chose was Great British Jigsaws. A British theme was important and ideally it should be a style that could be reflected in the website, which was being designed and built by Henleaze Web Design.  Also 50p from the price of each jigsaw is to go to one of 12 charities

How did I solve this problem?
The client was keen to have a Union Jack jigsaw piece as his logo. Working with templates supplied by the jigsaw manufacturer, I designed three different looks for the boxes and the client selected the version based on the Union Jack. Once the look of the box had been decided, I put together the artwork for all 12 boxes — using different charity logo and information and a different jigsaw photograph for each one. The base of all the boxes in the range was the same black and white reproduction of all 12 jigsaws.

What happened next?
The web designer was included in all stages of the design and I was able to provide artwork from the box design to be used in website building. The limited range of jigsaws went on sale in time for the Christmas market. Just-So Balloons asked me to design a leaflet to be dropped in the local area.
The full range of jigsaws can be seen at and bought from www.gbjigsaws.co.uk
